The Sixth Episcopal District (SED) Certificate Program
The Sixth Episcopal District (SED) Certificate Program is designed to provide individuals with a broad introduction and practical skills related to pastoral leadership and congregational ministry, through a five-course sequence in the following areas: church leadership and administration; managing bi-vocational ministry; preaching in ministry; self-awareness and congregational care; and church and community engagement.
The program offers pre-seminary preparation, in the form of education, training and support, as an alternative to the M.Div. degree for candidates under the classification of “4th year holding” who seek pastoral leadership and congregational ministry within the Sixth Episcopal District (AMEC).
Goals and Objectives
The specific goals for this program are to: 1) prepare candidates under the Board of Examiners in the Sixth Episcopal District for pastoral leadership and congregational ministry and 2) to equip ministry candidates with the skills necessary for efficient and effective pastoral leadership and congregational ministry. Upon successful completion of the program, students should be able to demonstrate effective skills for transformational, pastoral leadership and congregational ministry. A certificate will be issued to students who successfully complete all courses within the program from Turner Theological Seminary. Students will also have the option to participate in additional educational offerings for the purpose of continued education through Turner Theological Seminary.
The SED Certificate Program cost $775 ($150 per course, plus a $5 administrative fee) . Each course is offered as a two-week, online intensive. Students must enroll in all five courses in the sequence, starting in October, using the following schedule:
